Keiko’s Journey: From Surgery to Success at VESHW
Miracle Testimonials

At Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita (VESHW), we are honored to be part of so many incredible patient stories—like Keiko’s!
Earlier this year, Keiko was referred to us after her family and KSU Oncology discovered a large, iulcerated soft tissue mass. After careful evaluation and imaging, our surgical team, led by Dr. Mj, determined that surgery would be the best option to remove the mass and give Keiko the best chance for a healthy future.
On February 26, 2025, Keiko underwent a major surgery to remove the tumor. Because the mass was so large, she also needed a reconstructive skin flap to help close the surgical site. Recovery involved frequent bandage changes because part of the skin flap died – a completely expected part of the process - close monitoring, and lots of TLC from our team to ensure her incision healed properly. We found that Keiko was a huge peanut butter fan and allowed us to do her bandage changes without any sedation as long as peanut butter was involved!
Through it all, Keiko was an absolute star! She showed so much patience and resilience—even during her bath and bandage changes—and quickly became a staff favorite.
Today, we’re thrilled to report that Keiko has made a full recovery and her cancer is CURED! She recently returned to VESHW for a special "graduation" visit, where she reunited with Dr. Mj and several of her caregivers to celebrate her incredible journey. Her family reports she’s back to her happy, active self—and we couldn’t be more proud.
At the top you’ll see some photos of Keiko’s journey, from surgery to her first post-op bath, to her triumphant graduation day!
Thank you to Keiko’s family for trusting us with her care. We are always here to help your pets live their healthiest, happiest lives.
